Research laboratories help fight COVID-19 in South Africa, thanks to the Technology Innovation Agency, the Department of Science and Innovation and the South African Medical Research Council.
Scientists from the CPGR have adapted their lab to test over 1,000 samples for qPCR a day. KRISP scientists have developed a rapid genotyping technique for whole genome sequencing. Both organisations are platforms of the Technology Innovation Agency and members of the DIPLOMICS network of the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI). KRISP and CPGR have received funding from the South African Medical Research Council to provide qPCR testing at cost price to the National Health Laboratory Services to help public fight against COVID-19 in South Africa.
